The story shines a light on the unique challenges young adults face when aging out of foster care—and the ways our community is helping to bridge that critical gap, including our wonderful partnership with Fostering Hearts Florida.

For many young people, the constant instability of foster care makes it nearly impossible to stay on track academically. Frequent placement changes often mean switching schools multiple times in a single year, disrupting both learning and relationships with teachers and peers. National studies show that only about 50% of youth in foster care graduate from high school by age 18, compared to more than 85% of their peers, and less than 3% will ever earn a college degree. These numbers are not a reflection of ability—they’re a reflection of a system that too often leaves young people without the consistency, resources, and encouragement they need to succeed.

At Ready for Life, we walk alongside these young adults every step of the way, providing them with the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to get back on track academically and professionally. From GED preparation and tutoring to career exploration, job readiness training, and ongoing mentorship, our programs are designed to fill the gaps caused by instability and give each young adult a chance to thrive. By offering consistent support and resources tailored to their unique needs, we help these resilient young people turn potential into progress and dreams into reality.
